Paul Miles

Paul is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers, having enjoyed a wide ranging, 42-year career with the RBS Group.  Originally from the market town of Sudbury in Suffolk, Paul joined the then National Westminster Bank straight from School.  Up until 1998 he had worked from 9 offices across the South East of England, including London, where he specialised in various client sectors, also spending time in Head Office credit sanctioning and a peripatetic role project manging and administering structural changes to the banks delivery channels.

In 1998 Paul accepted a position within the banks Offshore division which saw him move to Gibraltar and then 6 years later on to Guernsey.  In Guernsey he was responsible for negotiating and structuring the larger Real Estate deals written by the bank, returning to Gibraltar at the end of 2009 where he led teams responsible for the delivery of the banks services to the financial services industry, professional firms, e-gaming and business banking.

As a result, Paul is an experienced negotiator at all levels, regularly interacting with Business owners together with their professional advisors, HNWI’s and Government Ministers, at the same time keeping in mind how differences exist between the way people from different Jurisdictions approach identical issues, having developed such an understanding over the years.

On the 1st January 2017, Paul took the decision to leave the bank and join the Board of one of his longstanding clients – Acquarius Trust Group!

Paul is clearly able to offer clients the benefit of the experience he has acquired working in a structured and disciplined financial environment but more than this, a strength, is his ability to quickly gain understanding of a clients needs and to build rapport and deep relationships.  Paul is a firm believer that nothing less than a professional, yet personal, high level of service, prioritising the client needs, is acceptable.  Leading from this, Paul is very happy to undertake early stage discussions whilst client plans are still being formed before providing detailed advice on setting up and establishing businesses, to include drafting business plans, financial structuring, acquiring premises, negotiating with third parties and not to mention advising on the most appropriate bank to establish a relationship with and negotiating the account opening.

In addition to the foregoing, Paul has responsibility for overseeing the delivery of our Trust, Company Management and Pension Administration services, ensuring regulatory compliance.  As part of this service delivery, to meet one specific aspect of the increasing interest in Fintech brought about by the pro-active stance of the Government of Gibraltar to this sector, Paul has joined a working group in conjunction with our regulator, the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission, to develop a strategy and guidelines in relation to Initial Coin/Token Offerings.

An approved person, authorised by the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission, Paul acts as Director for a number of our client companies.

Paul is a married man and Father of 4 and currently has 3 Grandchildren – a number he expects to grow!  When not in the office he enjoys keeping fit, walking with his dog and family.  He is a keen golfer and football supporter and also enjoys old cars, owning a 1935 Austin which he rebuilt from the ground up.
