May update
May is an interesting month here in Gibraltar. The weather can be a little wet and true to form we have had some considerable rain but the sun is shining through more as we head to summer. BUT though we are British we don’t always talk about the weather lol the big news here in Gibraltar is the brand new, recently opened tunnel. For decades the oddity about us has been the drive through the border into Spain and the route has always been across the runway. In fact it is a unique tourist attraction, or was. Though throughout it’s construction we have had many teething issues not least the two years of lockdown but it was finally completed and opened on the 31st March 2023. The ribbon was cut by the Chief Minister Fabian Picardo and former Chief Minister Sir Peter Caruana who began the project 15 years ago. The project isn’t completely finished with some of the touches still needed on the eastside where the tunnel starts and ends like the paths and fencing along the edges but it is an exciting experience, especially for the first time. For the fitness enthusiast there is also a cycle tunnel though you may still cross the runway if you wish with the walkers directly to the frontier.
If you are looking for a place to visit for a break then Gibraltar can promise you a unique experience from start to finish whether you fly into Gibraltar, drive in or walk in from Spain.
